The vital importance of this attachment cannot be trivialized.
To your child, on a sub-conscious biological as well as literal level, you are the only thing protecting him from certain death.
When you spank, yell, threaten, intimidate and punish a child, you are fracturing this bond.
These common disciplinary methods imbed the terrifying fear of utter abandonment and imminent death into a developing brain.

When you see yourself as a victim,
you give yourself permission for shocking levels of aggression.
You will spend more time victimizing others, then ever being victimized yourself.
The greater the gap between self perception and reality, the more aggression is unleashed on those who point it out.
If you are self deluded, you will only associate with those who reinforce your delusions, and those whom you can maintain power over.
If this describes a parent, you become a canyon wall, echoing back the delusion to avoid the wrath of exposing it.
Even if you have truly been victimized, you cannot allow that to define you.
